This page is no longer maintained, buy or search for Midwinter tableware here.
Bournes Bank in Burslem, Stoke on Trent was the location of a small pottery, founded in 1910. That pottery was W R Midwinter, who for the early years only produced teapots, before later expanding into the then lucrative market of sanitary ware. After the the First World War, the pottery expanded again, but it wasn't until a few years before the Second World War that the toilet ware was dropped to make room for production of dinner ware.
In the early 1930s Midwinter was one of the largest potteries in the UK at the time, and before it's closure in April 1987 had been responsible for over 5000 tableware designs.
The objective of this gallery is to display photographs of the many discontinued designs from the Midwinter Pottery, including those by such designers as Jessie Tait, Terence Conran, Peter Scott and Hugh Casson. The gallery will include retired tableware, collectibles and giftware. We hope that this will serve as a useful point of reference for those people trying to identify their obsolete dinner sets, tea services and collectables.
Due to the number of discontinued lines and therefore images it has been necessary to place the images under their corresponding first letter to reduce download time. So if you do not know the first letter of your discontinued design name, we are afraid it's a case of searching through.
Should you see a flashing lightbulb like the one below, then there is a special offer on the Midwinter crockery you are viewing. Clicking on the lightbulb will take you directly to our Special Offers page.
Development of these pages is on ongoing project so keep checking back.
