The roots of Staffordshire Tableware Ltd can be traced back to the Second World War when the Keele Street Pottery was closed down as part of the British government's Concentration Scheme. However, in 1945 Charles Hall Bowers, who was the son of the founder of the Keele Street Pottery, re-established the pottery as a going concern and in the following years took over a number of potteries before changing the name of the firm to Staffordshire Potteries Ltd in 1950.
In the late 70's the firm took over Taunton Vale Industries, who in turn owned the Howard Pottery and was best known by it's trade name, Royal Winton. Like many other potteries in the 1980's Staffordshire Potteries was to fall victim of a hostile takeover by Coloroll, and in the following years many name changes were seen before the Biltons and Staffordshire Potteries management teams merged to create a management buy out in 1990, and adopted the name Staffordshire Tableware Ltd. In recent years it is best known for it's economical earthenware tableware produced for the domestic market, often under the Kiln Craft trade name.
The objective of this gallery is to display photographs of the many discontinued designs issued by Staffordshire Tableware Ltd. These patterns will include discontinued tableware, collectibles and giftware. We hope that this will serve as a useful point of reference for those people trying to identify their obsolete dinner sets, tea services and collectables.
